As a 5th grader, self-trained artist Douglas Alan Clark won an art contest in his Boise, Idaho elementary school. He has never looked back. After graduating from high school, where he took as many art classes as he could fit into his schedule, Doug pursued art wherever it led him: painting large outdoor murals and running a successful ad agency in Boise, working as a graphic designer in the trade-show business and for several museums in Portland, Oregon, and managing graphics projects for The Football Hall of Fame and many other museums in Ohio.
In recent years Doug has moved away from commercial work into the fine art arena, painting for his own pleasure in his adopted home of Bellingham, Washington. He works primarily with house paint, occasionally supplemented with acrylics and oil paints, on recycled wood. His subject matter is wide-ranging—any ideas that feel good to him and promise enjoyment to others. He has been heavily influenced by his brother, contemporary folk artist R.R. Clark (aka Fishboy), the Impressionists, and the Abstract Expressionists of the 1940’s-1960’s.
Everyone who picks up a paintbrush has a vision and a unique point of view. Douglas hopes you enjoy his!
