SUMMARY:Shook Twins & Glitterfox
DESCRIPTION:Wild Buffalo Presents \n  \nShook Twins & Glitterfox \nspecial guests \nWild Buffalo \n8pm doors | 9pm show | 21+ \n  \nShook Twins Bio \n  \nIt just happened. \nPerhaps\, it could be attributed to cosmic design\, good old-fashioned magic\, or the unspoken\, yet understood bond all twins share. One day back in 2007\, identical twin sisters Katelyn Shook [vocals\, guitar] and Laurie Shook [banjo\, vocals] found themselves writing\, recording\, and performing as Shook Twins. To their recollection\, the pair never hatched a plan or even properly discussed it. \nHundreds of shows\, four albums and 2 EPs later\, the duo continue to tread this path. \n“Neither of us remember a time where we planned things out\, it all unfolded naturally\,” affirms Katelyn. “We simply started to play out and call ourselves Shook Twins\, because that’s simply who we are.” \n“We never set specific goals either\,” adds Laurie. “We talk about our hopes and dreams\, but we’ve just let everything grow organically with the band. We’ll see what happens next.” \nSince their 2008 debut You Can Have The Rest\, Shook Twins have conjured up dreamy folk with ghostly traces of Americana tradition uplifted by transcendently hummable melodies and lilting cinematic instrumentation. Along the way\, legendary New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman\, USA Today\, Langhorne Slim\, Mason Jennings\, and more fell under their spell and publicly professed adoration. \nSimultaneously\, they’ve graced legendary stages such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Gregory Alan Isakov and Ani DiFranco in addition to sharing bills with The Lumineers\, The Head and the Heart\, Sarah Jarosz\, The Wood Brothers\, and many others. Not to mention\, they’ve carved a home for themselves after playing Northwest String Summit and Oregon County Fair over ten times each as well as appearing at High Sierra Music Festival\, Lightning In A Bottle\, Bumbershoot\, Hulaween\, Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, Electric Forest\, Summer Camp Music Festival\, and beyond. During 2012\, the band welcomed multi-instrumentalist and “everything dude” Niko Slice on guitar\, mandolin\, and bass. Rounding out the sound (and the family) further\, keyboardist and bassist Aber Miller joined the fold in 2018. Additionally\, they welcome a rotating quiver of dynamic drummers\, namely Alex Radakovich\, Darren Garvey\, and Simon Lucas. \n“We essentially morph into different settings\,” observes Katelyn. “We can be a mellow duo\, folk-rock club band\, or weird late-night band. We love this sense of musical diversity.” \nHoning their vision like never before yet again\, the group reached a critical and creative high watermark with 2019’s Some Good Lives. The standout “Stay Wild” generated nearly 4 million total streams. In addition to praise from Glide Magazine\, Relix\, and more\, Paste praised\, “Shook Twins have real sonic versatility\,” while Atwood Magazine hailed it as “a record of musical and emotional maturity that goes beyond in nearly every aspect of the word.” Popmatters put it best\, “‘Some Good Lives’ is as affirming as it is magical.” \nAfter a quiet 2020\, Shook Twins take another step forward in 2021\, writing their next chapter. As always\, each album\, song\, and show services a higher calling for the group. \n“For us\, music is a way to give back\,” states Laurie. “It’s wonderful when our songs help someone through something. At each show\, we have an offering to give. It’s our way to hopefully bring joy to people.” \n“When we play\, it’s a night for everyone to escape\,” Katelyn concurs. “We all need that as humans—maybe now more than ever.” \nWhether or not they plan to\, Shook Twins foster a lasting bond with listeners worldwide as familiar and familial as their own. \n“When you listen to us\, we want you to remember how to feel more comfortable in your own skin\,” they agree. “That goes beyond the show. We hope you walk away feeling more like yourself\, because we’re fully ourselves on stage. We’re not shy. We have a sense of humor. We don’t ever take ourselves too seriously. We have fun up there. That’s our message through the music.” \nGlitterfox Bio \n  \nThe Portland band Glitterfox has released five singles in just six months under their new record label Kill Rock Stars\, with two more singles arriving this spring. The band’s been growing steadily since “Drive” came out in August 2023\, with their indie rock cocktail that deftly balances nostalgia-fueled anthems with Southern shine. The four-piece band’s songwriters and frontpersons\, married couple Solange Igoa and Andrea Walker\, have always channeled their personal struggles as well as experiences as queer\, neurodivergent individuals into their songwriting. Bassist Eric Stalker and drummer Blaine Heinonen bring a love of Americana\, grunge\, and dance music into the mix. All of these influences can be heard on the band’s latest singles\, produced by Chris Funk of The Decemberists\, and in their spirited live shows as they prepare for their full-length album debut in 2025.

SUMMARY:Elephant Stone\, The Asteroid No. 4\, STAHV Indie rock\, psych
DESCRIPTION:Starts: January 31\, 2025 \nTime: Doors Open 8:30 pm | Music 9:00 pm \nAdmission: $15 advance\, $20 day of show \nLocation: The Shakedown\n1212 N State St.\, Bellingham\, WA 98225 \nEmail: info@shakedownbellingham.com \n  \nWith a remarkable journey spanning 15 years\, Elephant Stone has established itself as a vanguard in the psych-pop universe. Under the inspired leadership of Rishi Dhir\, the band has ceaselessly pushed the boundaries of musical storytelling. Fueled by Dhir’s initial forays into music and elevated by his virtuosity on the sitar\, Elephant Stone’s compositions transcend mere melodies; they serve as profound meditations on loss\, rebirth\, and existential wonder. \nTheir 2009 Polaris Music Prize long-listed debut\, “The Seven Seas\,” was influenced by Dhir’s spiritual travels in India. In 2010\, “The Glass Box” EP showcased power pop vibes echoing Big Star. Their 2013 self-titled album brought psychedelic rock to the fore. “The Three Poisons” (2014) took a darker turn\, influenced by Buddhist teachings. 2016 saw the synth-infused “Ship of Fools\,” while “Hollow” (2020) depicted a world on edge. Their 2022 GAMIQ-winning French EP “Le Voyage de M. Lonely dans la Lune” mirrored our own pandemic-era reality. In 2024\, “Back Into the Dream” offered a fantastical voyage through ethereal dreamscapes and introspective quests\, further evolving their sound and narrative depth. \nIn celebration of their journey\, the band is releasing a 15th anniversary deluxe edition of their debut album “The Seven Seas\,” rekindling the magic that first captivated audiences. \nPraise from international critics and collaborations with industry giants such as Beck and The Brian Jonestown Massacre have affirmed Elephant Stone’s standing as a unique powerhouse in musical creativity and emotional depth. Echoing this sentiment\, Dhir insightfully remarks\, “As long as there’s Rishi\, there’s Elephant Stone.” Embark on an enthralling journey with them\, where celestial visions and grounded realities converge in a captivating harmony. \nThe Asteroid No.4 is an American shoegaze\, dream pop and psychedelic band based in Northern California. Originally formed in Philadelphia in the late 1990s\, the A4 have remained an active studio and live act\, and are considered to be stalwarts of the modern “psych”genre. Known for their prolific discography of reverb-drenched recordings and guitar driven\, liquid-projected live performances\, the band is often categorized as “neo-psychedelic” or “shoegaze”. Happily accepting their often made comparisons to acts like Ride\, Spacemen 3 or “Paisley Underground’s”\, The Rain Parade; the band have evolved into a sound all their own. In the spring of 2022\, the Asteroid No.4 released their 11th full length LP\, “Tones of the Sparrow” on London label specializing in “nugaze” acts\, Club AC30. European and US tours followed including support slots for Slowdive and The Ocean Blue. In January of 2024 a new 5-song EP was released on Chris Robinson’s (The Black Crowes) label\, Silver Arrow Records. The last year consisted of US tours supporting The Brian Jonestown Massacre\, The Black Crowes\, Beachwood Sparks\, and the Ocean Blue followed by a September ‘24 release of their 12th full length record titled “Several Shapes of Solar Flares” (Little Cloud/Club AC30).

SUMMARY:Dear Evan Hansen
DESCRIPTION:Declared “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by the Washington Post\, Dear Evan Hansen is the first musical to take a groundbreaking look — from the point of view of both the parents and young people — at our complex\, interconnected\, and social media-filled lives. \nEvan Hansen is a high school student who always feels like he’s on the outside looking in. He finally gets what so many of us are searching for — the chance to fit in. What follows is a poignant\, funny\, and powerful musical about how even though high school can be hard\, we can find each other — and ourselves — along the way.

DESCRIPTION:Starts: February 19\, 2025 \nTime: Doors Open 7:30 pm | Show Time: 8:00 pm \nLocation: The Shakedown\n1212 N State St.\, Bellingham\, WA 98225 \nEmail: info@shakedownbellingham.com \n  \nLizzie No’s music is a captivating blend of folk\, rock\, and indie elements\, marked by her expressive vocals\, intricate guitar work\, and unexpected harp playing. On her new album Halfsies\, No fuses the personal and political with a patchwork of influences that include everything from roadworn rock to orchestral tension\, creating a sound that is at once chaotic and haunting. Tracks like “Lagunita” pulse with jagged guitar lines and frenetic beats\, while songs like “Annie Oakley” echo with a raw\, spiritual energy\, inviting listeners to inhabit the immersive world she has created. \nCollaborations with artists like Grammy-winner Allison Russell and members of the Attacca Quartet enrich the album’s sonic landscape\, infusing it with a dynamic tension that reflects the urgency of No’s themes. Her music feels both timeless and timely\, drawing comparisons to artists like Lucinda Williams while also pushing boundaries with its layered\, genre-defying approach. The result is a sound that is expansive and reflective\, filled with the energy of a journey toward both personal liberation and communal belonging.

SUMMARY:Shadowhouse (Portland)\, The Glow (Seattle)\, Vance Latta Goth\, Darkwave\, Synthpop
DESCRIPTION:Starts: February 23\, 2025 \nTime: Doors Open 7:30 pm | Show Time: 8:00 pm \nLocation: The Shakedown\n1212 N State St.\, Bellingham\, WA 98225 \nEmail: info@shakedownbellingham.com \n  \nAmong the earlier bands to emerge in what’s become a vibrant and world-renowned post-punk scene in Portland OR\, Shadowhouse\, founded and spearheaded by mainstay Shane McCauley\, has specialized from the beginning in a nostalgic\, yearning brand of post-punk that ranges from the damaged heroic to the hauntingly personal. Heading into their eighth year and on the precipice of a new stage of their career\, Shadowhouse delivers the second incoming LP Forsaken Forgotten. While still remaining true to their working class\, punk rock roots\, this new incarnation of the band is set to take their sound beyond previous horizons. The fiery potential that has informed their work up to this point is poised to blow up anew heading into 2022. \nTaking a template roughly carved by the Chameleons and reshaping it in their own image\, Shadowhouse has remained true to their vision despite personnel shake-ups that would have poleaxed lesser bands. Operating now as a five-piece – Shane McCauley and Carl Simpson on guitar\, Tapani ‘Taps’ Sernesky on bass\, Noel Silhan on keys and Thomas Michael on drums – the Shadowhouse foundation has only grown stronger. Previous tours have traversed the States\, Europe and Russia\, sharing stages with Mode Moderne\, The Mob\, Eleven Pond\, Trisomie 21\, Gitane Demond Quartet\, Ash Code\, Geometric Vision\, Melting Walkmen\, Horror Vacui\, Masquerade and many others. They’ve also participated in various festivals such as Return to the Bat Cave in Poland\, Verboden in Canada and Out in the Shadows in Portland.

SUMMARY:The Dirty Nil
DESCRIPTION:Wild Buffalo Presents \n  \nThe Dirty Nil \nwith Grumpster\, Bug Bath \nTuesday\, February 25th \nWild Buffalo \n7pm doors | 8pm show | 21+ \n  \nIf there’s one rule people should follow when approaching the Dirty Nil\, it’s this: Never tell them how to rock ‘n’ roll. Ontario’s Juno Award-winning trio is a finely tuned rock machine that is at its best when the members are pursuing their penchant for thrashy riffs\, bashed out drums\, and levels-to-the-max volume. And on their fourth album\, Free Rein to Passions\, the band followed their instincts down to the note to produce their most authentic work to date. \n  \nThe Nil’s back-to-basics approach was a direct reaction to their previous record\, 2021’s Fuck Art\, a creative process that brought too many industry people whispering in the band’s ears\, telling them how to polish and tweak their songs to fit on the radio or streaming playlists or whatever other arbitrary whims the modern music machine demands. “There were all these expectations and pressures\, people telling us to try this or that\,” says frontman Luke Bentham. “We’re by no means the biggest band in the world\, but in our ecosystem it became hard to try to make all these people happy. We were given challenges\, and I think we met them\, but getting to that place\, it made me realize: ‘If we go any further in this direction\, then I don’t know what we’re doing anymore.’ It had gotten to a point where the creation wasn’t very fun.” \n  \nIn order to incinerate their apparatus\, they had to destroy it completely. So as soon as Fuck Art was in the can\, the Nil got back to having fun and doing what they love. They jammed away in their practice space for weeks\, not overthinking anything or taking any external input. They didn’t sweat the small details or fret over transitions and arrangements. Less second guessing\, more reckless abandon. It’s the same approach to rock they’ve taken since they were kids. “We had the best time pulling these songs together. It made me feel like a teenager in my parents’ basement again\,” Bentham says. What came out was the appropriately titled Free Rein to Passions\, a palate cleanser for the Dirty Nil\, and a reminder for them to stick to the fundamentals of rock and stay true to themselves. “What was it LCD Soundsystem said about trading in guitars for turntables and synthesizers?” Bentham laughs. “I’d say that’s unlikely for us.” \nTheir youthful rock-worship approach is immediately apparent on the album’s opener “Celebration\,” which cuts in via a chugging metal riff\, a subtle ode to one of the Nil’s influences\, Power Trip’s late frontman Riley Gale. From there\, the band indulges their loudest\, gnarliest inclinations\, making casual nods to their more chaotic favorites\, including everything from the Jesus Lizard to the Blood Brothers. And on the album’s catchiest single\, “Nicer Guy\,” the Nil reminds listeners that they also still wield the power to stitch a perfect\, infectious pop hook into their rock fabric. \n  \nFree Rein to Passions keeps things simple lyrically as well\, and doesn’t get bogged down with overly complicated messaging. Nothing overwrought\, nothing didactic. Just songs about working \nsoul-sucking jobs\, shredding on guitar\, and striving to be a kinder person. “The only real central theme of the album is an acknowledgment of the crazy circumstances that we all occupy at this point in time\, and being nice\,” Bentham stresses. “It’s about being nice to everyone around you\, and enjoying your silly little life and not getting too smashed down by prevailing negativity in the air.” \n  \nThe Nil again recruited longtime collaborative producer John Goodmanson to capture their sound at Jukasa Media on Ontario’s Six Nations Reserve. They also brought in new blood with bassist Sam Tomlinson\, a friend and fellow product of the Dundas scene. “In some ways it feels like going back to our roots in Dundas\, and Sam knows what that’s like\,” adds drummer Kyle Fisher. “He’s cut from the same cloth as Luke and I.” That hometown feeling was the inspiration for the song “Blowin’ Up Things in the Woods\,” an ode to the simple joys of fireworks\, explosions\, and pyrotechnic annihilation. \n  \nStaring into the abyss of entertainment serfdom\, the trio spat on it. They smashed the chalice of poison brought to their lips\, grinding the shards under their heels. A rock and roll band is part religion\, part small business and part pirate ship. Sabres were wielded and planks were walked for The Dirty Nil to bring Free Rein to Passions into this world. It was a battle well worth fighting.

SUMMARY:BALTHVS
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 02/27/25\nBellingham Exit Presents:\nBALTHVS\n$22.50 ADV / $25 DOS\n7pm Doors / 8pm Show\n21+\nAt Wild Buffalo \n  \nBALTHVS\, the Bogota\, Colombia based psychedelic funk trio was formed in the countryside while the group waited out the 2020 pandemic. The band was escaping the city during uncertain times and according to Balthazar Aguirre\, “we wanted the music to meld with the peaceful environment surrounding us at that moment.” Alongside Aguirre (guitar\, vocals)\, the band consists of Johanna Mercuriana (bass\, vocals) and Santiago Lizcano (drums\, vocals). \n  \nTheir genre-defying sound blends cumbia\, surf rock\, funk\, and Turkish musical influences. The music is comprised of lyrics in English\, Spanish and plenty of instrumentals that meld mysticism and psychedelics. “Colombia is very psychedelic\, there’s plenty of availability and a lot of traditional medicine involving entheogens and plant medicine around.” The result is a captivating sonic tapestry that transcends conventional boundaries\, captivating listeners with its multifaceted influences. \n  \nKnown for their dynamic and electrifying live performances\, BALTHVS has become synonymous with energetic shows and captivating improvisations. Since their inception\, the band has embarked on a prolific creative journey\, releasing an impressive catalog featuring over 34 singles and 3 full-length albums. Their music has resonated globally\, amassing over 6.8 million streams worldwide\, establishing BALTHVS as a formidable presence in the music industry. \n  \nWhile BALTHVS has conquered their home turf\, gracing the stage at Colombia’s largest music festival\, Rock al Parque\, they have also taken their infectious sound to international audiences. With three performances at SXSW in Austin\, TX\, a successful U.S. tour\, and a triumphant inaugural European tour in 2024\, the band is poised for even greater heights with a new full-length LP set to release on Mixto Records in the fall. SUMMARY:Baynk
DESCRIPTION:LNE Presents \n  \n  \nBAYNK \nwith special guests \nFriday\, February 28th 2024 \n8pm doors | 9pm show | 21+ \n  \n  \nJock Nowell-Usticke once aspired to make sunny electronic music meant for summer festivals and poolside hangs\, intimate dance songs that glittered with bright-eyed wonder and smiling charm. As an engineering student in New Zealand\, he played saxophone and keys in a band but became increasingly drawn to big-tent dance acts like Skrillex and Flume\, whose production wizardry Jock thought transcended his classically trained skillset. Shortly after downloading Ableton\, however\, he released a few downtempo electronic songs under the alias BAYNK and soon garnered a large\, devoted fanbase\, as well as a reputation as one of the most promising young talents in electronic music. Now\, ten years into his career\, BAYNK has netted hundreds of millions of streams\, sold-out international tour dates\, festival-headlining sets\, and a Grammy nomination\, establishing himself as a quietly visionary artist who continues to expand his sound and aesthetic palate with each new project. \n  \nBAYNK takes another massive leap forward on his terrific sophomore album\, SENESCENCE\, a record he sees as a spiritual successor to his full-length 2021 debut\, ADOLESCENCE. While the latter reveled in the heartbreak and immediacy of youth\, the former looks to the future\, grappling with themes of loss\, love\, death\, and connection. “SENESCENCE is the other side of the coin\, about time and the passing of it and the realisations that physical life is not forever—the acute awareness of one’s own biological vulnerability\, and with that\, a greater appreciation for the true richness of life.” Such an ambitious and amorphous concept could lend itself to platitudes\, BAYNK acknowledges\, but his scrupulous songwriting and deeply idiosyncratic production resists clichés. “I’m constantly avoiding trying to sound cliché\,” he says. “But the majority of the time a cliché is just how it really is.” \n  \nAcross 10 songs\, SENESCENCE announces itself as a daring\, dynamic fusion of pop\, deep house\, contemporary club\, funk\, and ambient; it instantly stands out as BAYNK’s most fully realised and sonically sophisticated work to date. “It took a long time for my output to catch up with my taste\,” he said. “For a long time I felt like I was listening to as much music as I could and learning about how it was made and its history.” If ADOLESCENCE caught BAYNK attempting “to create the perfect festival lineup” from his youth\, SENESCENCE finds him exploring the uncharted parameters of his adult artistry\, pulling inspiration from the likes of Caribou and Toro y Moi to capture gnarled moments of anxiety\, openhearted longing\, and searing vulnerability with expressive textures\, tempos\, and melodies. \n  \nAfter touring ADOLESCENCE around the world—a thrilling yet tumultuous experience\, he admits—BAYNK retreated to London in 2022 to begin working on another project. As the conceptual framework and track list for SENESCENCE began to materialise\, his ears spontaneously started ringing for days and weeks at a time without end. He was eventually diagnosed with tinnitus\, a condition he continues to struggle with. “It just came on one day and hasn’t stopped\,” he says. “At the time I thought\, ‘It’s over. I won’t be able to listen to mixes the same because I’ll constantly hear this mosquito in my ear clashing with the frequencies.’” Learning to live with tinnitus has been strange and painful\, but BAYNK says that his brain has slowly acclimated to the unsettling sensation. \n  \nOne of the key evolutions for BAYNK on SENESCENCE is his improved songwriting. “This album’s a lot more focused on lyricism and stories as opposed to just being dance tracks\,” he says. “The songs still have the DNA of dance music\, but the album is mostly concerned with love\, friendship\, and death—I wanted to reflect that in the writing.” While BAYNK has always been able to distil strong \nimages and intense emotions in his music\, his past lyrics often scanned as cue points that listeners could project themselves onto. On SENESCENCE\, he challenged himself to evoke the album’s core themes with greater narrative precision: “I haven’t been a strong songwriter in the past or even cared about it that much. It’s always just been melody and beat for me.” he says. “I’m now really precious about the words in my songs. It has to mean something.” \n  \nThe skittery\, restless early album highlight “Fool For You” epitomises BAYNK’s ability to thread evocative writing into electrifying production. “I don’t trust you anymore\, you don’t love me like before\,” he sings in a double-timed warble over a disjointed drum loop. “I used to be the sort of person who would obsess over people I was in relationships with. I would become a chameleon to their needs and change myself\,” he recalls. “‘Fool For You’s’ about the contortion of oneself emotionally to make a relationship work\, even when it might not.” Whether it’s the naturalistic imagery deployed to mourn his late grandmother on “What Am I Going to Do With You” or the celebration of romantic commitment on “Lonely World\,” BAYNK’s moving descriptions meld brilliantly with his detail-rich\, assured production. \nAlthough longtime friends and collaborators The Nicholas\, Joe Mason\, and Golden Vessel offer their hand to some of SENESCENCE’s instrumentation and production\, BAYNK is the only vocalist on the album. “As much as I love collaboration\, the most enticing thing for me has always been that I can control everything\,” he says. “I can have my hand in the visual\, writing\, singing\, and producing. I love collaboration\, but you do lose a little creative freedom when someone else sings your songs.” Making this album between London\, Paris\, Los Angeles\, Amsterdam and Hawkes Bay\, BAYNK flitted between flats and studios\, making beats and writing songs with the help of a Crumar Seven 73-Key Electric Piano\, which he played on a bulk of the album and made him “fall back in love with playing keys.” \nSENESCENCE is more stylistically varied than BAYNK’s previous projects. There’s hardly a wasted motion\, never a stray move. Beyond the stirring emotional tracks there are plenty of punchy strobe-lit anthems that’ll satiate long-time fans. “Mr. Jocko” and “When I Think About Us” are primed to set dancefloors on fire\, especially during his upcoming tour. “The album encapsulates the experience I want in a live show and the stories that I want to tell about my life\, both now and in the future\,” he says. As is consistent with BAYNK’s oeuvre\, astonishing visual content will accompany the release of new music\, including music video drops for each single. With SENESCENCE\, BAYNK once again proves his singular identity and persistent growth as an artist.
